“GOSPEL THAT SHOWS UP N’AT.”

CHRISTIAN NONVIOLENCE SMALL GROUP
(Email
clerk@hotmetalbridge.com for Meeting Dates & Locations)
Luke Watson is forming a community group focusing on Christian nonviolence. At the first meeting, people talked about the issues important to them included Gaza, immigrant mistreatment and deportation, due process concerns; Autism, Medicaid losses, the forgotten ones of society, LGBTQ+ population, and unfairness in general. Together, they are engaging in study, conversation, and collective action. Monthly meetings will alternate location for geographic fairness.

PRIDE T-SHIRTS
Pittsburgh Pride and Hazelwood Pride were opportunities to meet neighbors and new friends, and let them know that Hot Metal is a place where they can find community and belonging. And we had a GREAT time!

We made t-shirts for the occasion and have been asked if it’s still possible to order more. YES! We can put in another order at any time and are excited to keep spreading the message that all are loved by God and by us too. Available in adult sizes S-3XL and youth sizes XS-XL, $15 each. Email Lauren at clerk@hotmetalbridge.com to request a shirt.

The mission of the National Black Presbyterian Caucus (NBPC) is to serve Jesus Chris, and enrich the black Presbyterian congregations and their communities through our commitment to congregational enhancement, advocacy, social and racial justice; and challenging the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) when it fails to take seriously the needs of the poor, oppressed, and disenfranchised.

VOLUNTEER AT HAZELWOOD FOOD PANTRY
First Saturday of the Month @ 9:30-11:30 AM
Spartan Community Center of Hazelwood (
134 E Elizabeth St)

For years, Fishes and Loaves Cooperative Ministry has been providing free groceries to Hazelwood neighbors in the very space we worship in, and Hot Metallers are invited to lend a helping hand once a month. No RSVP is needed, just arrive ready to assist neighbors with love and dignity.

STANDING WITH IMMIGRANTS IN LOVE

If someone either witnesses or experiences an ICE detention, they should call 412-736-7167, Casa San José’s emergency response number, which is operated by their Emergency Response Organizer. Hot Metallers are encouraged to save this number in your phones to be ready to be the hands and feet of Jesus in an emergency.

DOWNLOAD PRINTABLE SIGNS >> Many in our community are moved to action by joining public demonstrations on a number of issues that conflict with our values as people of God. We have created a few biblically-based signs related to immigration that you are welcome to print or borrow a message from.

NEW HOME FOR THE FREE FOOD FRIDGE
131 E Elizabeth Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15207

Now located on the porch of Fishes and Loaves Cooperative Ministry, neighbors in need of food are welcome to check the fridge anytime. We’re so grateful for the partnership that keeps feeding folks in a new neighborhood, and it is located just across the street from the Spartan Center where we worship. Thank you to Emma Munson Foundation and the Katz School of Business at Pitt for making this possible!

Summer 2025: With the summer heat, we're keeping the Free Food Fridge stocked all summer for neighbors in need of hydration. Volunteer to restock the fridge with water, gatorade, or cool treats like popsicles and fruit. Donations can be dropped off directly to the fridge on the porch of Fishes & Loaves, or brought to a Sunday service.

Better Understanding Those We Love

Allies and good neighbors never stop learning and growing in empathy and action. Here are a few of the books we’ve studied as a community

LGBTQIA+ Art Show & Safe Space Award

In 2023, Hot Metal gave the inaugural Sanctuary Award to acknowledge, thank, and share proceeds with a local organization that has stood for the LGBTQIA+ community. The celebration took place amidst an art show displaying pieces that expressed how artists experienced “sanctuary.” As out first-ever honoree, BikePGH was chosen for their work to champion both road safety and communal safety for queer riders.
