LGBTQIA+ ART SHOW
HONORING SAFE SPACES

Whether physical protection from harm, or a place of spiritual and emotional healing—for millennia, sanctuaries have meant “you are safe here.” For LGBTQIA+ individuals, spaces to be seen, known, valued, and loved are critical. This art show is a celebration of these spaces, moments, and communities where we have been able to flourish as our full selves.

SEPTEMBER 15-22, 2023

2023 SANCTUARY AWARD:
BIKE PGH

Sanctuary: Art + Honors recognizes a local organization for their work in creating safe spaces for the LGBTQIA+ community in the greater Pittsburgh area.

As the inaugural honoree, BikePGH was selected for their work to create inclusive gatherings and communities, and advocacy for all people. They have intentionally engaged under-represented populations, including women, LGBTQIA+ communities, gender diverse people, families, immigrants, people of color, older people, youth, and people of limited income.

From formal programming—like WMNBikePGH, which is inclusive of trans women, intersex people, non-binary, genderqueer, agender and gender variant folks—to support for pride rides, alley-cat races, and group rides led by and in participation with LGBTQIA+ individuals, BikePGH has championed both road safety and communal safety for queer riders.

BikePGH Mission:
BikePGH is transforming our streets to make biking and walking commonplace for all Pittsburghers in order to improve our quality of life and reduce the harmful effects of car dependence in our communities.

All proceeds from the event supported BikePGH and the host organization, Hot Metal Bridge Faith Community.
